The Gynecare TVT Secur vaginal mesh pelvic floor repair system was marketed by Johnson & Johnson as safe and long-lasting, but a large number of serious side effects associated with the device have caused it to be recalled nationwide. TVT mesh complications have been reported to include erosion, infections, pain (including dyspareunia), organ perforation, and the recurrence of urinary problems. Fortunately, women who have suffered these complications after being implanted with the Gynecare TVT Secur vaginal mesh may have legal recourse through the filing of a TVT recall lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson Ethicon.

What’s the Problem?
The Ethicon TVT pelvic floor repair system is designed to be inserted transvaginally for the treatment of Stress Urinary Incontinence (SUI), a common problem many women face as they age. Normally, the urethra is held in place by pelvic floor muscles, which prevent involuntary urine loss. However, women with SUI have weakened muscles that cannot keep the urethra in place. The Gynecare TVT is constructed of mesh which is inserted under the urethra in order to help it stay in place and prevent involuntary leakage. Unfortunately, Ethicon TVT mesh has been linked to a number of adverse health complications which led to the products being pulled off the market.
TVT Mesh Complications
Reports of the following complications led to the TVT recall:
- erosion through vaginal epithelium
- pain, including dyspareunia
- urinary problems
- recurrence of prolapse and/or incontinence
- bowel, bladder, and blood vessel perforation
- vaginal scarring
- mesh erosion
